My husband and I want to start trying to have a baby but he just started a new job and the insurance doesn't kick in until 90 days. We put in all the paperwork to HR but aren't sure if in Dec when it kicks in they can jack up the premiums because I might be pregnant already or how that works. You know how an insurance tell there clients that they have to report a claim(personal injury/premise liablity) or something. Most insurance policies have a requirement that your notify the insurance company of any potential claim within a very short period of time after the incident occurs. I live in NY. How long can you wait to tell them? How much would that short period of time be? Landlord have been recieving letters frommy lawyer and he havent sent them over to his insurance company. This been going on since May 1st of this year. Can the insurance deny him coverage?

You don't say what country you are in, your age, or anything much else.

It doesn't matter what these are called. You have to compare:

What doctors you can see (any doctor? one in their network?)
What kind of doctor you can see (do you have to go to a primary care physician first, before you can see a specialist?)
Whether hospitalization is covered
What is the deductible (the amount out of pocket before they pay anything each year)
What is the co-pay (the amount you pay each time you use the insurance)
How likely are you to use the benefits?

Then make up a situation - you fall off a bike and break your arm, or you catch something serious. Figure out how you will benefit from each plan.

Once again, VB gives the correct answer. While the IRS has recently expanded the definition of the "established in the company name" standard, since the policy comes from your husband's employer it still does not qualify.

As a side note, officer health insurance cannot be directly deducted by an S corporation for more than 2% owners. There is a convoluted method used to get the deduction, but again you would not qualify.

Health insurance doesnt work in the US. If you cant afford it (it is very expensive) you dont have it. We do have programs to provide insurance to those that cant afford it, but it is primarily for children. You can choose any treatment you want as long as you are going to pay for it. If you do have insurance the insurance company pretty much tells you what they will pay for, otherwise you are on your own. Insurance companies rule in the US, and if you dont like it.....too bad.

As I understand it, the bill forces all Americans to have health insurance. However, I think that the fine for having no health insurance is around $750. But after the year 2014, health insurance companies will not be able to turn customers away for preexisting conditions. Why wouldnt someone pay the fine or buy low end coverage until they got ill and supplement the coverage or buy an extensive plan?
